ST is about to turn 3 years old, and is a not-for-profit community based association…we toss this about a bit…but what does it mean?
It means that on July 2, 2003, ST was registered with the Associations Incorporated Act of 1985, and must abide by the rules and regulations of that act. ST is guided by a Constitution, which has as its aims the following:
So, the vision of ST is one that encompases not just classes, but a vibrant, eclectic mix of milongas and practicas in which people can be exposed to a wide range of music – because ultimately, Argentine Tango is all about the music…and hence it is great having a range of DJ’s available in Adelaide, and a variety of milonga venues, which provide different music and moods in which to enjoy tango!
ST is run by a committee which must include a president, secretary, treasurer, public officer and ‘ordinary’ (should read as extraordinary really!) members who meet regularly to debate, discuss and decide upon the huge range of issues and decisions that fall before it.
All of the profits made through the classes and events that ST holds must be directed back into the ST community – through the purchase of music and equipment (eg the laptop and speaker), bringing in visiting teachers (eg Tangomania) and so forth.
Personally I would love to see the Adelaide tango scene involve a milonga every weekend with well more than 100 people, as well as a mid-week practica and milonga available every single week with more than 60 people at each…something that between ST and SCT, with more people coming all the time…hopefully isn’t that far away!
Hope to see you at ST’s B’day bash on Saturday July 1st!
