Claire is our Siempre Tango ‘front of house’ and venue liaison gal and has been in that role since beginning with the committee in June 2005. Having started dancing the Argentine Tango in April 2003, Claire has some of the best ocho action in Adelaide I reckon! Now, if she’ll just stop talking about that Adrian bloke for a second we’ll all be able to get on with some business….

  • Where were you born? Adelaide..not saying when.
  • Favourite colour? That’s a hard one. Possibly magenta, and I love all the colours in a fabulous Aussie sunset. Red, orange, gold and black are my favourite tango colours, and sometimes I have a leaning towards purples and greens.
  • Favourite gelati flavour? Another hard one. I think anything that has chocolate, hazelnut, berries or lemon in it would be just fine.
  • Current profession/place of work? After being a registered midwife for over 25 years, I recently completed a degree in Adult and Vocational Education, and am presently engaged in contract teaching work at Flinders University, School of Nursing and Midwifery, specialising in Interpersonal Skills in Health Care, and Sociology of the Body in Health and Illness, for Health Science, Nursing and Midwifery students. During the semester breaks I am employed as a midwife in the Casual Pool at the Women’s and Children’s Hospital.
  • What do you want to be when you grow up? ‘Relaxed and balanced’ – so I can be a fabulous tango dancer.
  • One thing you can’t do without? My family and friends.
  • Who would you most like to sit netx to at a dinner party? Nelson Mandela on one side and Oprah on the other. Now that would be interesting.
  • How many pairs of tango shoes do you own? Three – and none of them are right. I’m starting to believe that tango really is all about the shoes.
  • Favourite tango moment? I will never forget the blissful feeling – I am really doing this! – while being masterfully held in the arms of Adrian Veredice as we danced a milonga together on the night of Friday 13th October 2006. In that fleeting moment, he gave me such a gift, and showed me the possibilities of the tango experience. That glorious moment is forever etched in my memory, with gratitude.
